Ranveer Singh to star in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Tamil remake

After the critically acclaimed, award-winning film, Udaan, Motwane might go the remake way, which reportedly has the Band Baaja Baaraat actor playing the lead

It seems that Bollywood is running short of original ideas; every other filmmaker is toying with the idea of remaking a superhit South Indian film. The latest in this ever-lengthening list is Udaan director Vikramaditya Motwane. What surprised us more was what we heard about the cast: he has managed to convince Yash Raj Films’ latest poster boy Ranveer Singh to play the lead role in his new film. Post Udaan, Motwane has been busy writing his next, which was supposed to be co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar. The project was shelved and nobody knew what exactly prompted this move till we heard Anurag come clean about it, when he said, “Vikram ki film jo UTV, Karan Johar aur hum kar rahe the, usne side mein rakh di bol ke ki bachkani hai. (Motwane shelved the film because he thought it was childish.)” Apparently the director has finally written something that he himself approves of and is looking for a producer. We wonder why his mentor Anurag is not producing the thriller. Is it because of his protégé wanting to work with a star (Ranveer), or have they fallen out or is it just that everyone has to spread their wings and learn how to fly? While we don’t know what exactly is happening here, we just want to see some good original films, instead of this deluge of remakes.
